FarmDrop connects you directly to Blue Hill Peninsula and surrounding area producers for a quality food shopping experience. Supported by Healthy Acadia, and powered by volunteers, this site allows local food producers to connect with their valued customers with minimal time spent out of the field. Customers can choose items ranging from seasonal vegetables and fruits to local meat and diary, place a single order from the comfort of your home, and pick up a custom box weekly at Fairwinds Florist – 5 Main St, Blue Hill.
How is this service for you?
• Buy local produce from a farmers’ market with a simple click
• Save time and money, by planning your meals ahead of time
• Allow farmers to harvest only what they know is already sold
• Participate in the food security projects we run with no additional effort
The FarmDrop project was developed in 2011 by George Hurvitt (as a student at George Stevens Academy) with Max Treitler and Mary Alice Hurvitt of The Blue Hill Wineshop, and made possible by the generous support of the Community Health Alliance, now administered through Maine Farmland Trust. We cannot thank them enough for their leadership.
Present Project Goals of Healthy Acadia:
More recently, the Blue Hill Community Food Projects, administered by Maine Farmland Trust, and FarmDrop customer donations to The Magic Food Bus have allowed FarmDrop to continue increasing access to fresh locally grown produce through strategic mission driven partnerships with Healthy Acadia’s Gleaning Initiative and Healthy Peninsula’s Magic Food Bus.
FarmDrop is a community-based project that supports the local food economy, working alongside Healthy Acadia’s Gleaning Initiative, and Healthy Peninsula’s Magic Food Bus to ensure a vibrant economy and provide more fresh food to community members in need. We thank you for your participation!
